How much do sponsored posts cost in Kenya?
There's no official price list for sponsored posts in Kenya. Two pages with the same follower count can charge very different amounts, and sometimes both are fair. What matters is what you get for the money.
A real example
Here is what one page charges, as listed on BNN's booking page when this was written:
- Instagram story: KSh 1,000
- Facebook post: KSh 3,000
- Telegram post: KSh 4,000
- Instagram post: KSh 6,000
This is one page, not a market average. Prices change, so always check the current one. It does show that price depends on the format as well as the audience.
What moves the price
- Real reach. How many people usually see a post matters more than the follower count.
- Audience. A focused audience (Nairobi parents, car buyers, students) can be worth more than a bigger, mixed one.
- Format. A story disappears quickly, while a feed post keeps being seen.
- Extras. Being pinned, or staying up longer, usually costs more.
How to judge value
Work out the cost per person reached: divide the price by the views or reach a page's posts typically get. A KSh 5,000 post seen by 50,000 people costs a tenth of a shilling per view; the same price for 5,000 views costs a shilling each.
Cheap isn't always better. A smaller page whose followers fit your business can bring more customers than a big general one. If you can, start with one post, see the results, and spend more on what worked.
Watch out for
Be careful of follower counts with very little engagement, prices that change once you've said yes, and anyone who wants full payment to a personal number with no proof of the post. We cover this in how to avoid being scammed.
Compare prices in one place
Discover lists pages with their prices up front, and you can filter by platform, topic, town and budget. Log in for free to see more of each page's audience numbers. The price you see is what you pay, with M-Pesa or another method shown at checkout. After your ad is up you get a report with its results.
